Steve Bannon, former advisor to President Donald Trump, is set to begin his four-month prison sentence on Monday, July 1, after the Supreme Court denied his request to stay out of jail. Bannon was convicted of contempt of Congress in July 2022 for defying subpoenas from the House January 6 committee.

Bannon's lawyer argued before the Supreme Court in a last-ditch appeal effort that he was relying upon the advice of counsel and waiting for issues of executive privilege to be settled before complying with the subpoenas. However, the court ultimately rejected his appeal and ordered him to report to Danbury Federal Prison in Danbury, Connecticut.

Bannon has called the case a "political persecution" and believes that his sentence is an effort to "shut down" his voice and his Bannon's War Room podcast. However, he has vowed to continue working on the podcast and to make sure it does not suffer during his time in prison.

Bannon has also expressed his belief that there needs to be a "next man up" mentality in the populist movement and that people cannot rely solely on Trump or other leaders to take action. He has urged supporters to "bind together" and work to "restore this republic to our former glory."

Bannon's supporters have criticized the charges against him and the punishment he received, calling it a "shameful act of desperation" by the regime. They argue that Bannon was simply following the advice of counsel and waiting for issues of executive privilege to be settled before complying with the subpoenas.

Bannon is a retired Naval officer and has said that he is "fully prepared" to serve his sentence. He has compared his situation to that of Ring Lardner, Jr., a writer who was sent to prison for a year in 1950 for standing up against the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Bannon's case has sparked controversy and debate over the use of contempt of Congress charges and the punishment for those who defy subpoenas. Some have argued that the charges are being used as a political tool to target Trump allies, while others have defended the use of the charges as a necessary means of enforcing congressional subpoenas.

Bannon's sentence comes as the country prepares for the upcoming presidential election, with Trump expected to run for re-election. Bannon has said that he will continue to work to ensure that Trump is re-elected and that the Republican party takes control of the Senate, increases its percentage in the House, and takes back state legislatures and school boards.
