New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu signs bills protecting children's safety and fairness in sports and healthcare.

In a move to ensure safety and fairness for children, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has signed several bills into law. Among them is House Bill 1205, which bans transgender girls from participating in school sports in grades 5-12. This bill aims to maintain integrity and competitive balance in athletic competitions, joining nearly half of all U.S. states in taking this measure.

Sununu also signed House Bill 619, which prohibits gender-affirming procedures for those under 18 years old. This bill focuses on protecting the health and safety of New Hampshire's children and has earned bipartisan support. The governor pointed out that countries such as Sweden, Norway, France, and the United Kingdom have taken steps to pause these procedures and policies.

Additionally, Sununu signed House Bill 1312, which requires advance notice of any curriculum course material for education on sexual orientation, gender, or gender identity. This bill allows parents to opt their children out of such curriculum, ensuring that parents have a say in their children's education.

Critics of the bills argue that they target the LGBTQ community, especially LGBTQ youth, and could have devastating impacts. However, Sununu stated that these bills are "commonsense" solutions that reflect the values of parents across the state. He emphasized that the primary consideration in reviewing these bills was safety and fairness for children.

The New Hampshire Community Behavioral Health Association expressed disappointment in Sununu's decision, stating that the bills endanger the lives of children by targeting them for simply being who they are. They also argued that making these proposals part of the public discourse allows some individuals in the community to think that discrimination and harassment of LGBTQ kids is acceptable.

Despite the criticism, Sununu remains committed to upholding the principles of safety, fairness, and common sense for all citizens. He believes that these measures will continue to protect the well-being of children in New Hampshire.
