Texas Governor Greg Abbott has taken decisive action against the rising threat of Venezuelan gangs operating within the state, launching an aggressive crackdown on the Tren de Aragua (TDA).

This notorious criminal organization has been linked to violent activities across the nation, leading Abbott to declare it a foreign terrorist group.

At a press conference in Houston, Abbott laid out his strategy to combat the gang’s operations, stating emphatically, “It needs to stop. It needs to stop today.”

With a proclamation now in place, state law enforcement agencies are armed with enhanced capabilities to dismantle the TDA.

Abbott’s initiative includes forming specialized strike teams from the Texas Department of Public Safety, which will deploy highway patrol officers, SWAT teams, helicopters, K9 units, and the Texas Rangers to areas plagued by gang activity.

Highlighting the recent spike in violence, particularly in El Paso where 20 suspected TDA members were arrested at a local hotel, Abbott reiterated Texas’s zero-tolerance policy towards gangs that aim to terrorize communities.

To bolster law enforcement’s efforts, Abbott referenced Senate Bill 4, which imposes strict penalties on those engaging in human smuggling, an area where TDA has established itself as a key player.

Lawmakers and law enforcement officials, including Texas Border Czar Mike Banks and Chris Cabrera from the National Border Patrol Council, joined Abbott in discussing the grave implications of the gang's actions, shedding light on its connections to over 100 ongoing law enforcement investigations.

Abbott urged Texans to remain vigilant, assuring them that every resource would be utilized to eliminate the threat posed by the TDA and reaffirming the state's commitment to public safety.

Overall, this bold move to classify and dismantle a violent gang sends a strong message that Texas will not be a sanctuary for transnational criminals.
