A 12-year-old girl has been charged with murder in Tennessee after allegedly smothering her 8-year-old cousin to death over an iPhone. The incident occurred on July 15 in Humboldt, Tennessee, and was captured on a security camera inside the bedroom the two cousins shared.

According to the Gibson District Attorney Frederick Agee, the recording shows the older child using bedding to suffocate her younger cousin as she slept in the top bunk. After the child died, the 12-year-old cleaned up the victim and repositioned her body.

A relative told WREG-TV in Memphis that the girls had been arguing over an iPhone after coming from out of town to stay with their grandmother.

The girl has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Agee has stated that he will petition a judge to prosecute the girl in adult court, which would allow for a lengthier sentence.

This tragic incident highlights the need for responsible parenting and the dangers of unsupervised access to technology for young children. It also underscores the importance of addressing the root causes of violence in our society, such as poverty, lack of education, and mental health issues.

As conservatives, we believe in the importance of family values and the responsibility of parents to raise their children with love, discipline, and guidance. We also believe in the rule of law and the need for accountability for those who commit violent crimes.

In this case, we hope that justice will be served and that the family of the victim will find comfort and healing in the days ahead. We also hope that this incident will serve as a wake-up call for parents and policymakers to address the underlying issues that contribute to violence in our communities.

As always, we will continue to monitor this story and provide updates as they become available.
