Biden Campaign Sends Bizarre Email to Supporters, Including Poll Showing Trump Beating Biden and Every Other Democrat

In a bizarre turn of events, the Biden campaign sent a lengthy email to supporters on Saturday night, urging them to "keep the faith" while trying to buck up the "bedwetting brigade" still reeling from Joe Biden's disastrous debate performance against President Trump.

The email, sent by Deputy Campaign Manager Rob Flaherty, included the results of a poll by a Democrat pollster that showed President Trump beating Biden and every other named Democrat. The poll showed that Trump only beats Biden by three points while all the others lose to Trump by two or three points like Biden.

The email also included advice to supporters on how to talk to "your panicked aunt, your MAGA uncle, or some self-important Podcasters" following the debate. The email was met with criticism from Never Trumper Bill Kristol, who observed that the poll did not show Biden as the strongest candidate against Trump.

The Biden campaign's email comes as a sense of deep concern is growing among some Democratic officials that leaders inside Joe Biden’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee are not taking seriously enough the impact of the president’s troubling debate performance.

A recent poll from CNN and 538/Ipsos conducted soon after the debate found that most debate-watchers thought Trump outperformed Biden. However, the two men’s favorability ratings remained largely unchanged, just as they did in the aftermath of Trump’s conviction on charges in New York that he illegally participated in a hush money scheme to influence the 2016 election.

The Biden campaign has sought to project confidence in the days since Thursday's debate, with senior adviser Jen O'Malley Dillon insisting that the debate had no tangible impact on the election. However, many donors, party strategists, and rank-and-file DNC members are publicly and privately saying they want the 81-year-old Biden to step aside to allow the party to select a younger replacement at the Democratic National Convention in August.

As of now, though, Biden's closest allies insist he remains well-positioned to compete against Republican Donald Trump and have given no indication they will push him to end his campaign. Those best positioned to replace him — Vice President Kamala Harris, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer among them — reiterated their support for Biden after the debate.

Many are anxiously awaiting the first major round of post-debate public polling to determine their next steps. However, the Biden campaign's bizarre email has only added to the sense of panic among Democrats.
