Donald Trump has emerged as the front-runner in Michigan's Republican caucuses, leading with around 97% support against Nikki Haley, his remaining rival. The state is expected to be a key battleground in the upcoming general election, potentially facing a rematch between Trump and Joe Biden. The caucus in Grand Rapids attracted nearly 2,000 party insiders who will select delegates for either Trump or former U.N. ambassador Haley for the national nominating convention in July.

Despite internal turmoil and divisions within the party, Trump seems poised to secure a significant number of delegates in Michigan. The primary election in the state earlier in the week already showed strong support for Trump, and the current caucus is expected to further solidify his lead.

The ongoing infighting within the Michigan Republican Party, particularly involving the removal of former party chair Kristina Karamo and the appointment of Pete Hoekstra as the new chair, has added a layer of complexity to the proceedings. Nevertheless, Hoekstra remains confident that the party will ultimately rally around the goal of defeating Biden in the general election.
