**Congress Must Act to Protect Life and Defund Planned Parenthood**

As America grapples with critical moral questions surrounding the right to life, the need for Congress to take decisive action has never been clearer.

In recent years, the landscape of abortion access has shifted dramatically following the Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. This landmark decision returned authority on abortion regulations to the states.

However, the fallout has revealed an unsettling trend: the rise of mail-order abortions, which has contributed to an increase in the total number of abortions performed since the reversal of Roe v. Wade.

The Biden administration’s reckless handling of abortion pill regulations is particularly alarming. In 2021, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) temporarily relaxed safety protocols, allowing abortion pills to be sent through the mail without requiring that women even see a doctor. This change, initially justified under the guise of pandemic safety, prompted bipartisan concern among GOP attorneys general from over 20 states. They argue this puts the health of women and unborn children at risk, allowing blue states to export their liberal abortion policies into pro-life states.

The conversation around life needs to be elevated to the federal level. While some policymakers have shuttered themselves inside the walls of federalism, believing that the issue of abortion can remain strictly a state concern, this perspective does not hold when the lives of Americans are at stake.

Congress must act to reinstate the in-person dispensing requirement for dangerous abortion drugs. This simple, common-sense measure would be an important first step in safeguarding the health and well-being of women while reinforcing the pro-life agenda at the federal level.

Moreover, it is imperative that Congress extends the restrictions against federal funding for abortion providers, such as Planned Parenthood. The recent extension of federal funding moratorium is set to expire on July 4, and the implications of this expiration could be devastating.

Planned Parenthood has managed to remain the largest abortion provider in the United States, with federal funding enabling them to perform hundreds of thousands of abortions annually. Lawmakers should not allow a reinforcement of this institution on the 250th anniversary of our nation—the very day meant to celebrate our advocacy for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Rather, the focus should shift toward supporting community health care centers that promote and protect life. By reinstating the provisions in the “One Big Beautiful Bill” aimed at cutting Medicaid reimbursements for abortion providers, Congress can take a significant stride toward aligning federal policy with the values held by a majority of Americans who support life.

Now is the moment to recommit to protecting the unborn, and Congress must answer this urgent call. The battle for life cannot be won solely at the state level; it demands federal action that echoes the foundational ideals of our nation. As we approach Independence Day, let us reaffirm our dedication to the principles that secure our God-given rights to life.
