**Radical Abortion Amendment Threatens Family Values in Virginia**

This November, Virginia voters face a crucial decision that could radically alter the landscape of reproductive rights in the state.

House Joint Resolution No. 1 proposes to enshrine unrestricted abortion access into the Virginia constitution, a move that critics are denouncing as one of the most extreme abortion amendments in the nation.

Under current Virginia law, women can obtain abortions into the second trimester, with strict requirements in the third trimester involving the certification of three doctors. However, if HJ1 passes, these regulations could be dismantled to allow a single abortion provider to determine whether an abortion is justified based on vague terms like “physical or mental health.”

Such ambiguity raises serious concerns that a late-term abortion could be authorized merely on the grounds that carrying a pregnancy to term might be stressful for the mother.

Equally alarming is the amendment's disregard for parental rights. Proponents of the resolution have rejected amendments to protect newborns who survive botched abortions and have also dismissed calls for parental consent for minors seeking abortions.

Currently, Virginia law requires parental consent for many everyday activities—such as getting a tattoo or participating in athletic events—but under HJ1, a minor could potentially undergo an abortion without any parental notification.

This raises significant implications for Virginia families, especially in light of past behaviors observed in our schools. Reports have surfaced indicating that some school officials in Fairfax County previously organized and funded abortions for students without notifying their parents—an incident that, if the amendment passes, could become more common across the state.

Moreover, there are apprehensions that this amendment could pave the way for minors to undergo irreversible procedures related to gender identity without parental consent, including sterilization and hormone treatments. Such measures would not only strip parents of their rights but could also jeopardize better health outcomes for these vulnerable individuals.

Virginia state Senator Glen Sturtevant has called HJ1 “the most extreme” abortion amendment in the nation, warning that this radical proposal threatens the wellbeing of families and unborn children.

With so much at stake, it’s essential for Virginians to educate themselves on the implications of this proposed amendment and consider the potential consequences for the next generation before casting their votes in November.

Virginia deserves to uphold family values and protect its children, and as information about the extremity of this resolution spreads, we can only hope the voters will decisively reject this radical change.
