**Resurgence of Scouting America: A Return to Traditional Values**

In a move signaling a refreshing shift back to core American values, Scouting America, previously known as the Boy Scouts, is undergoing significant reform to realign itself with the principles that have made it a cornerstone of youth development.

On Friday, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth unveiled a series of changes aimed at restoring the organization's focus on merit and traditional values, away from the divisive practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) that have diluted its mission in recent years.

Hegseth highlighted the historical connection between scouting and the United States Armed Forces, noting that scouting has long been a vital conduit for training future leaders and service members.

However, he lamented the organization's decline since 2012, attributing it to an overreach of DEI ideologies that not only reshaped its identity but also undermined its foundational commitment to boys and God.

As part of the reforms, Scouting America has committed to eliminating DEI-related language and policies that have infiltrated its operations. This includes abolishing the DEI-focused “citizen in society merit badge” and affirming that membership will be based strictly on biological sex—a critical step in reinforcing its original charter.

Additionally, Hegseth announced that active duty, guard, and reserve families will benefit from waived registration fees, making scouting more accessible to those who serve our country. A new "military service merit badge" will further strengthen the ties between the organization and the military, fostering a generation of scouts who understand and appreciate the sacrifices made for our freedom.

Despite the challenges it faces, Hegseth expressed cautious optimism about the organization's potential for recovery, stating, "Maybe someday we can reclaim the Boy Scouts as a group that develops boys into men," echoing the desires of many who yearn for a return to robust traditional values.

While Scouting America has acknowledged Hegseth's comments and plans to adhere to the vision of Executive Order 14173, its commitment to maintaining co-ed membership has sparked controversy, signaling that there is still work to be done.

As the nation watches closely, the reform of Scouting America could serve as a bellwether for similar movements across various institutions that seek to prioritize merit, tradition, and the development of young people grounded in real values.

With Hegseth's intervention, there is hope that Scouting America will reclaim its rightful place in shaping responsible and principled leaders for the future.
