**Battling Bureaucracy: GOP Lawmakers Stand Firm Against Solar Projects on Farmland**
Republican lawmakers are stepping up to protect American farmland from exploitation by taxpayer-funded solar projects.
Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn, alongside Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis, has introduced the Protecting American Farmland Act.
This vital piece of legislation aims to codify an executive order from Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, which prohibits the use of federal funds for solar panel developments on productive farmland.
Senator Blackburn emphasized the importance of safeguarding Tennessee’s farmland, stating, “The federal government should not be endorsing Green New Scam projects that subsidize ruining fertile American farmland by building solar panels.”
The proposed act would prevent federal agencies from using taxpayer money to support solar projects on “prime farmland,” a definition established by the Farmland Protection Policy Act.
If enacted, the bill would also exclude these projects from certain federal green energy tax credits, which have been widely criticized as wasteful spending.
Many farmers have voiced their concerns that initiatives under President Biden’s climate agenda are opening the floodgates for energy companies, often at the expense of their farmland.
Ranchers in Arizona have reported experiencing an influx of energy developers seeking to utilize their leased lands, fueled by the incentives from Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.
President Donald Trump has consistently condemned such green energy policies, referring to them as the “Green New Scam,” while advocating for a balanced approach that prioritizes both traditional energy sources and an environmentally responsible economy.
“The federal government should not bankroll failed climate-alarmist schemes,” said Senator Lummis, reinforcing their collective commitment to preserving America’s agricultural resources.
The legislation adds to increasing Republican efforts aimed at addressing what they perceive as overreach by the federal government in environmental matters, particularly as they hinder food production and undermine America’s self-sufficiency.
As grassroots support continues to build among farmers and ranchers, this measure could mark a significant step in reinforcing conservative values that prioritize land stewardship and responsible resource management over excessive regulations and subsidies.
The Protecting American Farmland Act represents a powerful pushback against policies that may jeopardize the very foundation of American agriculture.
