A heroic 7-Eleven clerk in Oklahoma City faced termination for defending herself against a violent attacker.

Stephanie Dilyard, just 25 years old, found herself in a life-threatening situation when a male assailant, armed with a knife, entered the store around midnight.

The attacker, identified as 59-year-old Kenneth Thompson, attempted to pass a counterfeit bill before resorting to violence.

As Dilyard tried to notify the police about the counterfeit bill, Thompson approached from behind, violently choking her while issuing death threats.

Under duress, Dilyard drew her legally owned firearm and shot Thompson, who fled the scene and later sought medical help, leading to his arrest.

Authorities affirmed that Dilyard acted within her rights under Oklahoma’s self-defense laws.

While Dilyard sustained minor injuries in the attack, her bravery brought her self-defense to the forefront of public discussion.

However, in an astounding move, 7-Eleven subsequently fired Dilyard for violating company policy prohibiting firearms on the job.

Dilyard expressed her shock and disappointment over the company's decision, emphasizing that she prioritizes her life and the safety of her children over her employment.

“This was a situation where I felt like I was put in a corner between choosing between my job and my life,” she explained. “I need to be here for my kids.”

Despite the tragic outcome of her firing, Dilyard hopes her experience will serve as an important reminder for other workers, especially women, about the necessity of self-defense.

Her story underscores a critical dialogue around personal safety and the rights of individuals to defend themselves in dangerous situations.

With Dilyard's bravery and the consequential backlash from her employer, this incident highlights a troubling trend where good citizens face repercussions for protecting themselves.

In a world where the safety of individuals is paramount, this incident raises significant questions about corporate policies prioritizing skewed ethics over the protection of employees.
