Revealed Collusion: Cheney, Thompson, and DOJ Intrigue

Revelations of collusion have emerged from the January 6 Committee, highlighting a troubling nexus between Congress and the Department of Justice that should alarm every American who values fair governance.

Recently uncovered correspondence reveals that former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney and Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson covertly collaborated with Special Counsel Jack Smith during the high-profile investigation into President Donald Trump and the January 6 Capitol incident.

The letters, released by the House Judiciary Committee, expose a coordinated effort by Cheney and Thompson to deliver a trove of evidence to Smith before Republicans regained control of Congress in early 2023.

In a December 5, 2022 letter, they promised Smith “16 transcripts of interviews and depositions” collected in their contentious investigation, assuring rapid access to additional material. This included high-stakes items such as communications from former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and documents from legal scholar John Eastman.

Such collusion paints a concerning picture of partisanship and manipulation within our federal investigative apparatus. The January 6 Committee, established by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has faced valid accusations of misconduct, including the erasure of documents and biased motives against Trump and his associates.

In a deeply troubling twist, both Cheney and Thompson were preemptively pardoned by President Biden, raising suspicions about the lengths to which they went to shield themselves from repercussions for their actions during this politically motivated investigation.

The sweeping implications of this revelation cannot be overstated.

As the new House panel, led by Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., digs into the committee's activities, we must not lose sight of the fundamental issue at stake—transparency and accountability in our government.

This unmasking of partisan loyalties and backdoor dealings should serve as a rallying call for all who cherish democracy.

It is time for the American people to demand better from their representatives and to stand guard against the politicization of judicial processes.
