**Predatory Concerns Emerge as Newsom Signs Bill Supporting LGBTQ Youth Resources**

In a controversial move, California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed legislation that raises alarms regarding the safety of children in public schools.

Assembly Bill 727 mandates the inclusion of contact information for The Trevor Project on school IDs for middle and high school students, as well as college students.

While the bill claims to prioritize mental health support for LGBTQ youth, critics warn that it inadvertently opens the door to potential dangers, particularly through the online forum TrevorSpace.

This platform, aimed at individuals aged 13-24, has been criticized for lacking robust age verification and moderation standards.

Brenda Lebsack, a trustee in the Santa Ana Unified School District, voiced her concerns, stating that the initiative by The Trevor Project “places kids in harm’s way.”

She further emphasized the risks associated with allowing minors unfettered access to a platform that can connect them with random adults.

The issue has garnered attention from law enforcement officials, including retired police officer Kevin Brown, who has extensively worked against child trafficking.

Brown testified that he was able to create a fake account on TrevorSpace, designed to resemble a 15-year-old boy.

Within minutes, he connected with multiple users, raising serious questions about the site's safety protocols and whether it exposes vulnerable youth to predation.

Even officials from the Riverside County Sheriff's Office and the Orange County Department of Education advised Governor Newsom to veto the bill, reflecting widespread concern among law enforcement regarding its implications.

This legislation comes as California continues to grapple with a range of social issues and significant budgetary challenges, as evidenced by Newsom’s previous contentious decisions regarding healthcare for illegal immigrants.

Despite these pressing matters, Newsom appears more focused on advancing progressive social agendas, sidelining the safety and welfare of children in the process.

As discussions surrounding children's safety and mental health become increasingly polarized, it remains to be seen how this legislation will be received by parents and communities across the state.

With mounting fears of potential risks, it is clear that the conversation must shift towards ensuring safe environments for all children, particularly within their own educational institutions.
