**California's Disturbing Proposal: Students Living in Cars as the "Solution" to Housing Crisis**

A shocking bill proposed by California Assemblyman Corey Jackson reflects a startling decline in the Democratic Party’s ability to address homelessness and housing affordability in one of the country's richest states.

Instead of enacting policies that would genuinely tackle the root causes of California's housing crisis, Jackson's legislation ironically proposes that college students be allowed to live in their cars on campus.

Yes, you read that right—students struggling to afford skyrocketing rent will find themselves parking in designated lots to try and survive their college years.

As highlighted by Assemblyman Jackson, nearly half a million community college students were reported to have experienced homelessness in 2023. Yet, instead of pushing for more housing or rental assistance, this proposal offers a band-aid solution that typifies the shortcomings of the left's approach to the ongoing crisis.

Republican representatives in California, like Rep. Vince Fong, have rightly condemned this proposal as a symptom of failed liberal policies that have stifled development and allowed affordability to plummet.

Fong pointedly stated, “California doesn’t need more parking lots; we need real solutions.” He emphasized that the restrictive policies championed by Democrats have created a situation where merely surviving in a car is seen as an acceptable alternative for thousands of students.

With reports indicating that 19% of California college students faced homelessness in the last year, one has to question whether this bill empowers students or merely reflects a desperate attempt to patch up the failures of a prolonged Democratic governance. With each passing year, policies like Jackson’s showcase a willingness to kick the can down the road rather than implement comprehensive reforms needed for significant, sustainable improvement.

While some school officials, such as Long Beach Community College’s Mike Muñoz, attempt to justify their participation in this program by drawing from personal experience, the reality is that offering campus parking for students to live in their cars should never have been considered an option in the first place.

In a state where students are burdened not only by tuition costs but also by astronomical living expenses, the last thing needed is a government that normalizes living in vehicles as a viable solution.

Place the blame squarely where it belongs: on years of mismanagement and ineffective policy decisions from liberal leaders who have failed to address the infrastructure needed to provide adequate housing.

As we head into future elections, California voters must critically evaluate the direction their state is heading. If they continue to embrace policies that merely offer temporary fixes, the dream of upward mobility and stability for future generations will surely remain out of reach.

It’s time for a change—a change that prioritizes real solutions rather than parking lots.
