**Unforgivable Crime Statistics in the Capitol: A System Out of Control**
Washington, D.C., often hailed as the nation's capital, is simultaneously a stark reminder of the failures of progressive policies in addressing crime.
A recent analysis reveals that, between 2018 and 2022, a shocking 98.3% of those arrested for carrying a pistol without a license avoided prison sentences.
These dismal figures come from the District of Columbia Sentencing Commission, highlighting a criminal justice system that increasingly appears ineffective and lenient.
Despite the alarming homicide rate—40.9 per 100,000 residents—Mayor Muriel Bowser would like residents to believe that progress is being made.
In her recent letter to the Trump administration’s D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force, she touted a 35% drop in violent crime compared to the previous year.
However, few would equate a drop from record-high crime rates to real safety, especially when the city remains one of the most dangerous in the country.
While the Mayor happily claims victories, the reality is grim.
In fact, Washington, D.C., is so dangerous that it ranks fourth-worst in the nation for homicide rates, trailing only New Orleans, St. Louis, and Detroit—cities notorious for their struggles with violence.
Analyzing further into the data, it becomes clear that nearly 34% of those arrested for carrying a weapon without a license were never even charged.
Local prosecutors are not only shirking their obligations but also leaving dangerous individuals on the streets. There’s a total of only three in-house investigators working alongside the 330 prosecutors in D.C., which many believe contributes to this staggering statistic.
Only 39.9% of those arrested resulted in a conviction for any offense, making a mockery of law enforcement efforts.
Even among those convicted, nearly 58% received probation, suggesting that breaking gun laws carries minimal consequences.
Under current policies, it’s apparent that carrying an illegal firearm in D.C. is not treated with the seriousness it deserves.
As the Trump administration tackles crime nationwide, the lack of accountability in D.C. further highlights the urgent need for criminal justice reform.
In a city where violent crime persists despite supposed measures of improvement, it’s time for a complete reevaluation of law enforcement strategies—something conservatives have long advocated for.
The radical liberal agenda has not only failed to secure the streets of D.C. but has also jeopardized the lives of its residents.
It’s a wake-up call for all who live in the shadow of the Capitol.
The ongoing crisis in our nation's capital cannot be ignored, and it demands action and accountability before it spirals further out of control.
