Taxation is Theft.

A new survey reveals a striking consensus among American voters: an overwhelming 84% of likely voters support the extension of the tax cuts implemented during Donald Trump’s presidency in 2017.

Despite relentless criticism from Democrats and their allies in the media, this substantial support spans across party lines, with 95% of Republicans, 81% of independents, and even 74% of Democrats advocating for the continuation of these cuts.

The Public Opinion Strategies survey, conducted for Americans for Prosperity, underscores a clear message: voters are not just in favor of these tax cuts—they expect Congress to act swiftly, with 85% of those surveyed insisting that the decision should be made as soon as possible.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has announced his intentions to push for legislation that would permanently extend the Trump tax cuts before the Memorial Day holiday. This proactive approach comes in light of the fact that many Americans view the expiration of these cuts as a looming threat to middle-class families and small businesses.

Senate GOP Leader John Thune (R-SD) acknowledges that while procedural challenges may arise, he remains confident that the tax cut extension can pass the Senate by July Fourth, setting the stage for President Trump to sign it into law.

By maintaining the current tax rates, Republicans not only stand to strengthen their position ahead of next year’s elections but also offer much-needed financial relief to American families navigating the uncertainties of today’s economy.

As evidenced by the survey, voters are acutely aware that allowing these tax cuts to expire would likely harm their finances and diminish economic growth. It’s clear that the public supports a strong stance from their representatives in Congress—a firm commitment to uphold policies that facilitate economic empowerment and stability for all Americans.

In a political climate marred by division, this issue presents a unique opportunity for the Republican majority to unite on something that resonates deeply with their constituents. As Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH) aptly pointed out, "President Trump’s tax cuts were critical to delivering relief to the middle class."

The Republican-controlled Congress must listen to the voice of the people.

Failure to act may not only jeopardize economic recovery but also threaten their chances in the 2026 midterm elections.

As Americans await action, one thing remains clear: voters want to preserve what works, and it’s time for Congress to heed their call.
