**Crisis**: Asylum Seekers Fuel Homelessness Surge

A startling new study reveals a direct correlation between the surge in asylum seekers and a significant spike in sheltered homelessness across the United States.

Between 2022 and 2024, the nation experienced a staggering 43% increase in “sheltered homelessness,” with asylum seekers responsible for a shocking 60% of that rise.

Data from the Department of Housing and Urban Development indicates that the number of homeless individuals living in emergency shelters climbed by approximately 149,000 during this period.

Of that population increase, nearly 93,000 were asylum seekers, predominantly concentrated in so-called “sanctuary cities.”

These locales, characterized by policies that prioritize the care of undocumented individuals, such as New York City and Chicago, have borne the brunt of the sudden rise in the homeless population.

New York, with its right-to-shelter law, housed about 67,000 asylum seekers, driving up the city's budget for asylum services from $1.47 billion in 2023 to a staggering projected $4.37 billion for FY2025.

Similarly, Chicago's sheltered homeless population ballooned from around 2,600 in 2022 to an alarming 17,200 just two years later.

The consequences of these unsustainable policies are clear: taxpayers are being burdened with exorbitant costs to support individuals who entered the country illegally.

In stark contrast, states like Florida and Texas, which do not actively promote sanctuary policies, saw far lower increases in homelessness. Florida's homeless population rose by only 20%, despite a sixfold increase in asylum seekers, while Texas experienced a mere 14% increase.

This disheartening trend underscores the pitfalls of the current administration's immigration policies, which have allowed the number of individuals paroled into the U.S. for asylum hearings to explode.

Under President Trump, the narrative around immigration shifted dramatically, seeing a significant decrease in illegal entries.

His administration's focus on enforcing immigration laws aimed to reduce the strain on local resources and protect the interests of American citizens.

Trump has taken decisive action to address these issues, signing an executive order to identify sanctuary cities and hold them accountable, warning they may lose federal funding for obstructing immigration enforcement.

As the next election approaches, this growing crisis brings into sharp focus the need for responsible immigration policies that benefit all Americans and do not jeopardize essential services for those already residing in the country legally.

The rising tide of homelessness in the wake of irresponsible immigration policies highlights an urgent call for action as conservative leaders advocate for a return to law and order as the bedrock of a stable society.
