**Victory for Infrastructure: Truckers and Builders Applaud Emissions Rule Repeal**

In a bold move reflecting the prioritization of American infrastructure over cumbersome regulations, the Department of Transportation (DOT) has officially repealed a Biden-era carbon emissions rule for federally funded highways.

This rule, set to take effect in May, required state transportation departments to measure carbon dioxide emissions from highways, establish goals for reducing these emissions, and report their progress to federal agencies.

DOT Secretary Sean Duffy articulated the necessity of this repeal, stating, “Under President Trump’s leadership, we are going to build great, big, beautiful things again. I slashed this ridiculous climate requirement to ensure no radical political agenda gets in the way of revitalizing America’s highways.”

Industry leaders representing truckers and builders hailed this decision as a much-needed reprieve from bureaucratic overreach that threatened crucial infrastructure projects. Alex Etchen, from the Associated General Contractors of America, noted, “The so-called greenhouse gas performance measure would have forced states to put important infrastructure projects, like road and bridge improvements, on hold to fund projects that would do little to facilitate the movement of people and goods.”

A significant number of states had previously announced their opposition to the greenhouse gas rule, with more than 20 states filing lawsuits against the initiative. Rural states, in particular, raised concerns about the potential detrimental impact of such regulations on long-distance driving and essential infrastructure development.

Dan Horvath of the American Trucking Association emphasized that states are better positioned to determine their transportation needs, contending that the emissions performance measures imposed by the previous administration would have created needless bureaucratic barriers to accessing federal funds.

“It ultimately would have scrambled local priorities and undermined highway expansion projects, leading to greater traffic congestion and higher shipping costs that contribute to inflation,” he added.

The Trump administration continues to prioritize deregulation efforts that empower states and local governments to make decisions that directly impact their communities. By repealing this carbon emissions rule, the administration not only addresses the needs of the trucking and construction industries but reinforces a commitment to infrastructure growth without the overhang of federal mandates.

As the country moves forward, the emphasis is clear: American highways need to be revitalized and operational, free from the constraints of unnecessary regulations. This decision exemplifies a commitment to practical policy that focuses on revitalizing the nation's infrastructure while supporting the industries that keep goods moving across the nation.
