**Terrorism Unmasked: Republicans Move to Designate Cartels as Foreign Threats**
In a bold move against organized crime, House Republicans have announced plans to officially designate major Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs).
This crucial legislation, known as the Drug Cartel Terrorist Designation Act, aims to make a significant impact on the ongoing crisis at the southern border by labeling notorious cartels such as the Sinaloa Cartel and the Gulf Cartel as terrorist entities.
The initiative aligns closely with former President Donald Trump’s previous executive order that recognized these cartels as a national security threat.
As crime and violence linked to cartels escalate, acting decisively is essential. The cartels have exploited U.S. borders to engage in activities that profit off misery, fear, and death.
Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy, the bill's sponsor, expressed serious concerns over the cartels' escalating violence, stating, "Now that their open-borders cash flow is about to dry up, they have resorted to planting live explosives on the Texas border and shooting at Border Patrol agents in broad daylight.”
The proposed legislation, if passed, would require the State Department to issue a comprehensive report on these criminal organizations. It also entails freezing the financial assets of designated cartels and prohibiting their members from entering the United States.
The crime wave fueled by these drug cartels has intensified under the Biden administration, highlighting the severity of the border crisis. It is estimated that these cartels rake in around $14 million per day through various illicit activities, further emphasizing the need for swift action.
Establishing an FTO designation would not only enhance law enforcement’s ability to combat these criminal organizations but would also ensure that such critical measures cannot be easily reversed by future administrations.
“We need to take these terrorists seriously,” Roy urged. “Let’s take this bill up, put it on President Trump’s desk, and take these terrorist criminals down once and for all.”
With a total of 13 House Republican co-sponsors backing the Drug Cartel Terrorist Designation Act, it is clear there is a growing bipartisan recognition of the severe threat posed by these cartels.
The time to act is now. As the Republican leadership continues to fortify border security and uphold the rule of law, the message is clear: the U.S. will not tolerate the violence and chaos perpetuated by drug cartels any longer.
