Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party's presidential nominee for the 2024 election. Shapiro, a Democrat, issued a statement on Sunday evening, highlighting that he has known Harris for nearly two decades and believes she is the best candidate to lead the party and the country.

"I've known Kamala Harris for nearly two decades – we've both been prosecutors, we've both stood up for the rule of law, we've both fought for the people and delivered results," Shapiro wrote. "Kamala Harris is a patriot worthy of our support and she will continue the work of generations of Americans who came before us to perfect our union, protect our democracy, and advance real freedom."

Shapiro's endorsement comes just hours after President Joe Biden announced that he would not seek reelection, citing the best interest of the party. Biden then issued another statement offering his full support and endorsement for Harris to be the party's nominee.

"I will do everything I can to help elect Kamala Harris as the 47th President of the United States," Shapiro added.

Harris' campaign has already raised a significant amount of money in the first day of her campaign, with over $49.6 million in donations, according to ActBlue. This has been the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle, with small-dollar donors showing their support for Harris.

However, Harris' candidacy has not been without controversy. A recent video has surfaced in which Harris appears to struggle to explain the situation in Ukraine, leading some to question her foreign policy knowledge and experience.

As the 2024 election approaches, it remains to be seen how Harris' candidacy will fare against her Republican opponents. However, with the support of key Democrats like Shapiro and Biden, she is well-positioned to make a strong run for the White House.
