The Secret Service has admitted to denying former President Donald Trump's requests for additional security resources prior to the attempted assassination on July 13. This revelation comes after the agency initially claimed they never received such requests.

The Washington Post reported that for at least two years before the incident, Trump's detail was denied resources, including counter-sniper teams for a 2023 appearance in Pickens, South Carolina, where several buildings surrounded Trump's stage.

Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, the House Judiciary Committee chairman, wrote to FBI Director Christopher Wray, stating that whistleblowers informed his committee that Trump's detail was short-handed due to the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., and Jill Biden's campaign event in Pittsburgh.

The Secret Service Director, Kimberly Cheatle, has faced multiple calls for her resignation and is expected to testify at a House Oversight Committee hearing investigating security lapses at the July 13 rally.

Trump survived an assassination attempt during his 2016 campaign for the White House during a campaign event in Las Vegas, when a 20-year-old man tried to take a police officer's gun to shoot the then-presumptive GOP nominee.

The Secret Service's admission of denying Trump's requests for additional security resources raises questions about the agency's commitment to protecting the former president and the potential impact on his safety.

The incident also highlights the need for a thorough investigation into the security lapses that led to the attempted assassination and the measures that need to be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

As the investigation continues, it is crucial to ensure that the former president and all other individuals under Secret Service protection receive the necessary resources to ensure their safety.
