Dems Divided: Over 35 Lawmakers Urge Biden to End Reelection Bid

More than 35 congressional Democrats have now called on President Biden to end his reelection bid.

In a surprising turn of events, a growing number of Democratic lawmakers are urging President Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. This development comes as Biden's cognitive abilities have been called into question, with many expressing concerns about his fitness to serve as commander-in-chief.

JD Vance, a prominent conservative commentator, has argued that if Biden is unfit to campaign for reelection due to his cognitive issues, he is also unfit to be president. Vance's position has gained traction among conservatives, who have long criticized Biden's mental acuity.

However, the Left has been reluctant to acknowledge the seriousness of Biden's cognitive decline. Instead, they have focused on the political implications of his potential loss in November. As one commentator put it, "If everything was the EXACT same but he was 4 points up in the polls, there would be no calls from the left."

This unwillingness to address the issue head-on has led to a heated debate on social media. Many have criticized Jonah Goldberg, a prominent conservative commentator, for downplaying the dangers of having a cognitively impaired president. Goldberg compared Biden's cognitive decline to a broken hip, arguing that he could still serve out his term despite his mental impairment.

However, critics have pointed out that a broken hip and dementia are not equivalent. While a broken hip can be overcome, dementia cannot. As one commentator put it, "If Biden is currently mentally unfit to run, then he's mentally unfit to be the President - today, with the nuclear codes."

The Left's reluctance to address Biden's cognitive decline has also led to speculation about a possible revolt at the Democratic National Convention. According to a report by the New York Post, Democratic delegates are openly discussing what would happen at the convention if Biden either refuses to step aside or drops out of the race.

Delegates are pointing to a "good-conscience loophole" that would allow them to vote for a new candidate of their choosing. This loophole stems from a change in the DNC's rules following the 1980 convention fight between Ted Kennedy and then-President Jimmy Carter. Unlike Republican delegates, Democrats could revolt at any time.

The scale of a possible revolt is unclear, but even an unsuccessful one could hurt Biden going into the November election. Some Democrats fear that Vice President Kamala Harris, Biden's most likely replacement, could fare even worse due to her low approval ratings.

As the debate over Biden's cognitive abilities continues, it remains to be seen whether he will heed the calls of his fellow Democrats and withdraw from the race. However, one thing is clear: the issue of his mental fitness is not going away anytime soon.
