Historic First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, is engulfed in a massive fire.

The church, located in downtown Dallas and pastored by Dr. Robert Jeffress, caught fire on the evening of July 20, 2024. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but a church spokesperson said that the blaze started shortly after 6 p.m.

Ben Lovvorn, executive pastor of First Baptist Dallas, told The Dallas Morning News that there were no injuries reported. However, the historic chapel, which is more than 125 years old, contained historic and irreplaceable artifacts.

Dr. Jeffress, who spoke to Fox News in Dallas, said that the church had just concluded Vacation Bible School with over 2,000 children. He expressed gratitude that no one was hurt and thanked God for His protection.

"This sanctuary has been around since 1890. It holds a lot of memories, but we thank God that nobody has been hurt," Dr. Jeffress said. "We had just concluded Vacation Bible School with over 2,000 kids. They were all gone. So, God has protected us through all of this."

The fire has been upgraded to a three-alarm fire, and several fire engines are on the scene. The Dallas Fire Department is currently working to extinguish the blaze.

Franklin Graham, the son of the late evangelist Billy Graham, urged the nation to pray for the people of First Baptist Dallas.

"Please join me in praying for the people of First Baptist Dallas as they deal with this devastating fire," Graham wrote on Twitter. "May God be with them and comfort them during this difficult time."

The First Baptist Church of Dallas is a historic and prominent church in the city, with a membership of over 13,000 people. The church has been a fixture in the community for over 150 years and has played a significant role in the city's history.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the extent of the damage is not yet known. However, the loss of the historic chapel and its artifacts is a significant blow to the church and the community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of First Baptist Dallas during this difficult time. We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
