A federal appeals court on Thursday halted the Biden administration's efforts to implement a new student loan debt relief plan aimed at reducing borrowers' monthly payments.
The U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals granted a request from seven Republican-led states to block parts of the Education Department's plan that had not been previously blocked by a lower court judge.
Last month, a U.S. District Court in St. Louis had already prevented the agency from proceeding with certain aspects of the Biden administration's Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) plan, though it did not block the entire program.
