Top Democrats reportedly believe President Joe Biden will drop out of the 2024 presidential race as soon as this weekend, according to sources close to the White House. The decision comes after growing pressure from top Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who have expressed concerns about Biden's ability to win re-election and deliver congressional majorities.

According to Axios, the president is being told that if he stays in the race, former President Donald Trump could win in a landslide and wipe away Biden's legacy and Democrats' hopes in November. The report states that Biden campaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg has also warned the president that donors' patience is wearing thin and wallets are beginning to close up for good.

The pressure campaign has reportedly reached intolerable levels after Democrats said they fully expect post-shooting polls to show that sympathy for President Trump has been converted into a sizable lead. On Thursday, Emerson College released results of the first poll since Saturday's assassination attempt which showed that Trump leads Biden by 6% nationally and by a margin of up to 10% in swing states he lost four years ago.

The news comes as Vice President Kamala Harris' potential replacement of Biden as the Democratic nominee has been discussed. However, Harris' record as attorney general of California, senator, and now vice president has raised concerns among Democrats about her ability to lead the party.

Expanding abortion has always been a recurrent issue for Harris, with her biographer Dan Morain telling The Sacramento Bee that it has dominated her schedule since the Supreme Court issued the Dobbs decision in June 2022. Harris has also been criticized for her pro-abortion stance, including prosecuting pro-life pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) for not helping pregnant women seek and obtain abortions.

Harris' other areas of passion also fall into what are sometimes called "culture war" issues, including Medicare for All, marijuana legalization, and opposition to the death penalty. She has also promoted the LGBT agenda since at least 2004, when she officiated same-sex weddings "in defiance of state and federal regulations."

As vice president, Harris has been tasked with tackling the immigration crisis, specifically focusing on "efforts to address the root causes of migration." However, her strategy of diplomatic dialogue with Central American countries and shipping COVID vaccines to El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala has been criticized for its false assumption that illegal border crossers are only coming from Central America's northern triangle and the absurd scope of recreating Americanesque prosperity and stability with four years and the government's pocket change.

Harris' leadership record has also been called into question, with her VP team seeing an exceptionally high amount of turnover, even by White House standards. Former staffers have complained that Harris failed to read briefing materials, then would lash out when she was unprepared. They have also described her as a "bully" and the vice president's office as an "abusive environment."

As Democrats consider replacing Biden with Harris, these policies, this performance, and this leadership are what they are likely to have instead. However, it remains uncertain whether Democrats will jettison Biden as their nominee.
