Secret Service Spotted Trump's Would-Be Assassin Three Hours Before Shooting

In a shocking revelation, it has been reported that the Secret Service spotted Thomas Matthew Crooks, the man who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump, at the rally three hours before the shooting. The 20-year-old gunman was carrying a rangefinder used by hunters to take long shots, which raised suspicions among the Secret Service.

Crooks' parents had called the police to report their son missing before the shooting. The gunman had told his boss that he needed the day off from work and gave his colleagues a chilling message that he would be back on Sunday. He was spotted at the rally's security screening area and tried to pass through metal detectors with the rangefinder.

The Secret Service watched Crooks but lost track of him when he left the secure area. He is believed to have collected the rifle he used to shoot Trump and kill retired volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore from his car, which also contained a bulletproof vest and two explosive devices.

Around 40 minutes before the shooting, Crooks was back on the Secret Service radar. A photograph showing the sniper appearing to crawl on the ground while scouring the area was circulated to law enforcement as a suspicious sighting at 5:30 pm.

At 6:11 pm, Crooks took up a position on a slanted roof and shot at Trump from a distance of around 165 yards, wounding him in the ear and killing Mr. Comperatore. Witnesses spotted Crooks crawling onto the roof of the American Glass Research building. A Secret Service counter-sniper team codenamed 'Hawkeye' also spotted him looking at their position through the rangefinder.

The latest developments have raised questions about the massive security failures that led to the attempted assassination of the former president. The Secret Service is facing intensive scrutiny over its handling of security at the rally.

Crooks was a registered Republican and 2022 high school graduate. He graduated from the Community College of Allegheny County in May with an associate degree in engineering science. His father, Matthew, was seen on Tuesday morning for the first time since the shooting as he opened the door of the family home to FBI agents.

The Justice Department, the Secret Service, and the FBI are due to brief senators about the investigation on Wednesday. The FBI said they were investigating the shooting as a potential act of domestic terrorism, but the absence of a clear ideological motive by Crooks has led to conspiracy theories flourishing.

Investigators believe that Crooks acted alone and have confirmed that there is no social media presence that would indicate that his attack was politically motivated. However, the latest revelation that a transmitter was also with him has raised fears that Crooks may have been planning to continue his killing spree if he had escaped from the roof with his life and may have had an accomplice to help him.

The shooting has left the nation in shock and has raised questions about the security measures in place to protect public figures. The Secret Service has a responsibility to ensure the safety of those they are tasked with protecting, and this latest incident has highlighted the need for a review of their procedures.

The attempted assassination of a former president is a serious matter, and it is essential that those responsible are brought to justice. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and it is hoped that those responsible will be held accountable for their actions.

In the meantime, the nation mourns the loss of Corey Comperatore and prays for the swift recovery of former President Trump. The shooting has once again highlighted the need for greater security measures to protect public figures and the importance of vigilance in the face of potential threats.
