The Daily Show has cancelled its plans to film at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The far-left satire news show had already sold out multiple nights at the 1,500-person capacity Marcus Performing Arts Center, where they planned to film before a live audience. However, in light of the "incredibly shocking and sad events" that took place in Pennsylvania, the show has decided to reschedule its events in Wisconsin.

The attempted assassination was carried out by Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old native of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Crooks was a registered Republican who had donated to Democrat causes, including the progressive fundraising entity ActBlue. He was described by a former classmate as a "loner" who was frequently bullied in school.

On the day of the assassination attempt, rally goers noticed a man climbing on the roof of a building located roughly 130 yards from the Trump podium. One officer climbed a ladder to the rooftop and encountered Crooks, who pointed his rifle at the officer and forced him to retreat. Crooks then quickly took a frantic shot at former President Trump and was neutralized by U.S. Secret Service snipers within seconds.

One of the shots fired by Crooks grazed former President Trump's ear, while another struck an innocent bystander in the head and killed him. The deceased victim has been identified as Corey Comperatore, a retired firefighter and father of two who died while shielding his family from gunfire.

The Secret Service has confirmed that the building Crooks fired from was located outside the security perimeter despite its close proximity to the podium. Investigators recovered an AR-15 rifle near Crooks' body, which was purchased by his father. It is unclear how the gunman was able to obtain the weapon or whether he used it with his father's knowledge.

The attempted assassination has had a significant impact on the political landscape, with some Democratic strategists reportedly coming to the conclusion that the presidential contest is over and that all focus should be redirected toward regaining the House and retaining control of the Senate. The image of Trump thrusting his fist in the air, with blood dramatically smeared across his face, has been described as indelible and iconic, even by liberals.

Trump has already arrived in Wisconsin and has stated that he will not let the shooter change his schedule. The Republican National Convention is set to take place from July 15-18.
