Oklahoma State Coach Mike Gundy Admits to Drunk Driving '1,000 Times' After Excusing Ollie Gordon’s Arrest

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy made a shocking admission on Tuesday, claiming that he has driven drunk "1,000 times" in his life. Gundy made the statement while defending his decision not to punish running back Ollie Gordon II for being arrested and charged with drunk driving.

Gordon was arrested on June 30 in Tulsa and blew a 0.10 BAC, which is over the 0.08 legal limit in Oklahoma. Police also reported finding an open bottle containing alcohol in his car. Despite this, Gordon was allowed to play in the next game after his arrest.

Gundy attempted to justify his decision by claiming that Gordon's arrest was not severe enough to warrant team punishment. He went on to say that he felt Gordon was sufficiently apologetic and that he had made a mistake.

However, Gundy's comments veered dangerously close to making it seem as if he was dismissing drunk driving as inconsequential or perhaps equating getting caught to a meaningless game of chance. He even went so far as to say that he has driven drunk "1,000 times" in his life and that he got lucky.

The backlash to Gundy's comments was swift, with many criticizing him for his cavalier attitude towards drunk driving. Gundy later took to his X account to try and clarify his statement, saying that his intended point was that "we are all guilty of making bad decisions."

This is not the first time that Gundy has faced criticism for his actions. In 2018, he was criticized for wearing a t-shirt that read "I'm a man, I'm 40" after a player was suspended for a DUI.

It remains to be seen whether Gundy will face any consequences for his latest comments. However, it is clear that his words have not gone unnoticed and that many are calling for him to be held accountable for his actions.
