A recent poll conducted by Emerson College has revealed that former President Donald Trump would handily defeat President Joe Biden and other potential Democratic nominees in the upcoming 2024 election. The poll, which surveyed 1,370 registered voters, found that Trump would prevail over Biden by a margin of 46-43%, with 11% undecided. Notably, Trump's support has remained steady at 46% since before the first presidential debate, while Biden's support has decreased by two percentage points.

The poll also found that Trump would defeat Vice President Kamala Harris, the most likely replacement for Biden, by an even wider margin of 49-43%, with 8% undecided. In addition, Trump was found to defeat eight other high-profile Democratic figures and prospective replacements by anywhere from 5-10 points.

According to RealClearPolling's average of national general election polls, Trump not only maintains an average 3.3 point lead over Biden, but he also leads in virtually every major poll since the late June debate and holds comfortable margins ahead of Biden in all of the most important swing states.

The poll results come as a blow to Democrats and the media, who had hoped that Trump's criminal conviction in New York would prove devastating to his bid for re-election. However, Trump's base of support remains more motivated to turn out to vote than Biden's base, and his support has recovered since the conviction.

Meanwhile, Biden's campaign staff are reportedly on the verge of mental breakdowns following the president's disastrous June 27 debate performance and subsequent media missteps. According to a report by Axios, morale is at an all-time low among Biden staffers, who are battling low morale and disillusionment. The report also revealed that some Biden aides felt "numb" and "gutted" following the debate, while others questioned whether Biden was physically and mentally fit to run for re-election.

The Democratic Party is also facing anxiety and frustration over the race, with a significant chunk of the party shell-shocked by the debate and calling for Biden to step aside. However, Biden is not going anywhere right now, and the time frame to find a replacement might not be possible.

The poll results and the internal turmoil within the Biden campaign are likely to fuel speculation about a potential Trump comeback in the 2024 election. However, it remains to be seen whether Trump will be able to maintain his lead in the polls and overcome the challenges posed by his criminal conviction and other controversies.
