Republican lawmaker from northern Michigan, Neil Friske, was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning following a disagreement with an adult dancer. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. on June 20, 2024, in the 2100 block of Forest Rd, Lansing, Michigan.

Friske, a hardline conservative, has a record of putting faith and family at the heart of his campaign to be reelected to the state House of Representatives. His campaign quickly issued a statement suggesting the case was politically motivated, stating that Friske is "always exercising his Second Amendment right."

The statement further claimed that the arrest came just before absentee ballot papers were released and days after an unknown phone number conducted polling on Friske's race against an "opponent with deep state ties."

However, police spokesperson Jordan Gulkis confirmed that Friske was arrested for a felony-level offense. Gulkis added that the investigation continued and evidence would be presented to prosecutors for possible charges on Friday.

Property records show that Friske was arrested close to a condo he owns, according to the Detroit news. About 40 minutes after police said Friske was arrested, two posts appeared on his X account, discussing legislation banning pornography produced by A. I. without the consent of people in the image.

Friske is one of the most hardline conservatives in the House. He is a member of the Freedom Caucus, which lines up against the vast majority of legislation brought before them in the Democratic-led legislature.

The incident has sparked a debate on the use of firearms and the Second Amendment. Friske's supporters argue that he was merely exercising his Second Amendment right, while his critics question the appropriateness of carrying a firearm in such a situation.

The incident also raises questions about the conduct of elected officials and the potential for political motivations in criminal investigations. Friske's supporters have expressed concern that the arrest was politically motivated, while his critics argue that the law should apply equally to all, regardless of political affiliation.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible gun ownership and the need for elected officials to uphold the highest standards of conduct. As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen what charges, if any, will be brought against Friske.
