Crypto investor twins, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, have announced their support for former President Donald Trump, citing the federal government's ongoing efforts to clamp down on cryptocurrency as a major factor in their decision.

In a lengthy explanation, Tyler Winklevoss expressed his frustration with the Biden administration's approach to cryptocurrency, stating that it has "weaponized multiple government agencies to bully, harass, and sue the good actors in our industry in an effort to destroy it." He went on to accuse the administration of engaging in an "unprecedented abuse of power wielded entirely for twisted political gain at the complete expense of innovation, the American taxpayer, and the American economy."

Tyler also revealed that he has "lost multiple bank accounts because [he] own[s] crypto and [his] investment firm [Winklevoss Capital] has as well." He attributed this to the Securities and Exchange Commission's failure to issue rules and guidance to the crypto industry, instead relying on a 1946 Supreme Court decision about a citrus grove in Florida to go after members of the industry.

In contrast, Tyler stated that "President Donald J. Trump is the pro-Bitcoin, pro-crypto, and pro-business choice." He argued that this is "not even remotely open for debate" and that anyone who suggests otherwise is "severely misinformed, delusional, or not telling the truth."

Cameron Winklevoss echoed his brother's sentiments, distilling their views to three points.

The Winklevoss brothers' complaints about the Biden administration's approach to cryptocurrency echo those of many Trump supporters, who have accused the administration of weaponizing government agencies like the Department of Justice and FBI. In the tech world, the Winklevoss brothers are far from alone in their support for Trump.

David Sacks and Chamath Palihapitiya recently hosted a well-attended fundraiser for Trump in San Francisco, which raised over $12 million. Palmer Luckey, founder of Oculus VR, also hosted a fundraiser in Newport Beach.

The Winklevoss twins' support for Trump comes as the former president has proposed giving green cards to foreign graduates of US colleges, departing from his previous anti-immigrant rhetoric. Trump has argued that this policy would help to attract and retain the best and brightest talent from around the world, while also boosting the US economy.

The Winklevoss brothers' endorsement of Trump is a significant development in the crypto world, as they are among the most prominent figures in the industry. Their support for the former president is likely to be seen as a major boost for his campaign, as he seeks to win back the White House in 2024.
