Former President Trump has criticized 18 Republican Senators for voting in favor of the $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill, calling for them to be primaried in the next election. In a statement on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said, "The $1.7 TRILLION quickly approved Bill of the week before was HORRIBLE. Zero for USA Border Security. If [McConnell] waited just ten days, the now 'United Republican Congress' could have made it MUCH BETTER, or KILLED IT."

The bill, which passed on December 23, includes provisions to fund the government through the next fiscal year, as well as earmark measures such as military aid to Ukraine and the renaming of federal buildings. Trump had urged Republicans to vote against the bill and criticized Democrats for failing to address the border issue. The bill passed the Senate with 18 Republican votes and the House with nine Republican votes.
