Republicans rally around Trump following assassination attempt, while Democrats simmer over Biden's performance.

Republicans have united in support of former President Donald Trump following an assassination attempt on his life during a rally on Saturday.

Rep. Mark Alford (R-Mo.) said, "This attempted assassination of the 45th and soon to be 47th president of the United States has united our conference in a way that nothing else could have done."

Trump's popularity among Republicans has only grown since the incident, with many seeing him as a hero.

Meanwhile, Democrats are struggling to find a viable candidate to challenge Trump in the upcoming election.

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) said, "Most of the calls I’ve received are from people who are even more concerned about our chances in November because of the attempted assassination and how to some voters, Trump will come out looking like a hero."

Adding to Republicans' jubilation on Monday was Judge Aileen Cannon's dismissal of the case special counsel Jack Smith brought against Trump over his alleged hoarding of classified material.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S. C.) invoked the divine in his convention speech, saying, "If you didn’t believe in miracles before Saturday, you better be believing now."

President Joe Biden has urged the nation to lower the temperature following the assassination attempt, but he has also defended his own characterization of Trump as a threat to democracy.

Biden said, "How do you talk about the threat to democracy, which is real, when a president says things like he says?"

The Secret Service has stepped up its protection of Biden and Trump following the incident.

Biden is set to appear in three TV interviews this week in an attempt to counterprogram the Republican convention and respond to worries from fellow Democrats about his ability to win a second term.

In the wake of the assassination attempt, Republicans are rallying around Trump, while Democrats are struggling to find a viable candidate to challenge him in the upcoming election.
