Pro-Life Groups Praise Trump's VP Pick: J. D. Vance

Pro-life groups are praising President Donald Trump's selection of pro-life Ohio Senator J. D. Vance as his vice-presidential running mate.
Carol Tobias, the president of National Right to Life, called Vance an "excellent choice."
"National Right to Life believes Senator Vance is an excellent choice for vice president," she said. "He is committed to promoting the right to life and protecting both women and their preborn children."
Tobias said Vance opposes the Biden-Harris push for a sweeping federal law allowing unlimited abortion for any reason until birth.
Like President Trump and the majority of Americans, Senator Vance believes tax dollars should not be used to pay for elective abortions at home or abroad and is a co-sponsor of legislation in the Senate, she added.
She said Vance shares President Trump’s commitment to nominating qualified judges who will interpret the Constitution as written and not legislate from the bench and he also supports assisting pregnant women and families in need as well as community-based pregnancy help centers, unlike Joe Biden and Kamala Harris who seek to undermine the work of these community-supported centers.
"Senator Vance brings a strong pro-life background to the Republican ticket, which contrasts with the extreme pro-abortion position of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris," said Tobias.
"J. D. Vance is an exceptional selection as President Trump’s running mate. His courage in exposing the Democrats’ agenda of abortion for any reason, even in the seventh, eighth, or ninth month, helped propel him to a decisive victory in the 2022 midterm elections. Vance’s hardscrabble upbringing informs his compassionate approach to this issue. His ability to compellingly share these stories on a national stage will surely be an asset. During his time in the Senate, he has earned an A+ on our Scorecard. With approximately 750,000 babies in states like California and New York still lacking basic protections, we need champions whose boldness will not waver.

Before his recent controversial comments, Vance had been solidly in the pro-life camp — urging people late last year to keep fighting to save babies from abortions.
"Giving up on the unborn is not an option. It’s politically dumb and morally repugnant. Instead, we need to understand why we lost this battle so we can win the war," he said.
Frank Pavone of Priests for Life said the pick shows Trump is making the best choice possible.
"JD Vance did not always support President Trump and his selection as vice president shows President Trump’s spirit of putting the good of the country above any personal considerations," Pavone said. "The first thing we are looking for in this vice president is someone who can carry on for eight years after Trump’s second administration because the MAGA movement is going to be part of American politics for a long time. This selection will continue to strengthen that movement for decades to come."

Vance has a solid 100% pro-life voting record as a senator from the Buckeye State and has frequently spoken out in favor of the pro-life cause. But recent comments he made supporting the abortion pill have caused him to fall out of favor with pro-life Americans.
