Breaking News: Milwaukee Mayor Outraged Over Harmless RNC Sign Change, Ignoring City's Real Issues

Milwaukee Mayor Chevy Johnson was reportedly furious over a harmless sign change ahead of the Republican National Convention (RNC), which is set to start tomorrow and run through July 18. The host city had set up security zones, perimeters, and other infrastructure in preparation for the event. However, the RNC's decision to put up a temporary sign renaming 'Herb Kohl Way' as 'Donald J. Trump Way' sparked outrage from the mayor.

Herb Kohl was a longtime Democratic senator who famously kept the Bucks in Milwaukee as a condition of his sale of the team. He died in December 2023. Kohl was one of Milwaukee's favorite sons and if it weren't for his legacy, there wouldn't be an RNC, DNC, professional basketball, or any number of large acts in Wisconsin.

The sign change was not permanent, but Mayor Johnson took immediate and personal action, tweeting his disapproval and reaching out to the RNC. However, many Twitter users pointed out that the mayor had ignored the countless number of crimes, murders, and rapes occurring in his city, and had instead chosen to focus on a sign change.

Democrat priorities were called into question, with many users urging the mayor to address the rampant issues with MPS and public safety with the same energy. MPS is the city's public school system, where only 13% of elementary students are proficient in reading and 9% are proficient in math. These numbers are consistent in middle and high school students.

Milwaukee residents pay an annual wheel tax to allegedly 'fix' the roads, and Milwaukee County has a wheel tax as well. This means Milwaukee residents pay twice to fix roads that don't get fixed. In light of yesterday's assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, many hoped that the city would focus more on security and less on ginning up outrage during the convention.

In conclusion, while the sign change may have been harmless, it highlighted the mayor's misplaced priorities and the city's real issues. The RNC is set to start tomorrow, and all eyes will be on Milwaukee to see how the city handles the event's security and the city's ongoing issues.
