‘Make sure you tell everybody this is the most important election of our lifetime’: Magic Johnson returned to Everett High School Saturday to campaign for Joe Biden

LANSING - Magic Johnson returned to his alma mater, Everett High School, Saturday to campaign for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his running mate, California Senator Kamala Harris.

Johnson, a former Michigan State University basketball player and former star point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, stressed the importance of voting in the Nov. 3 election before a socially distanced crowd of fewer than 100 people on the school grounds.

"It's very important that we tell our friends, our family members, get out and vote and vote early," Johnson told them. "You can do that now. Voting is easier than it's ever been before, so we've got to take advantage of it so we don't have to stand in those long lines in November."

His visit to Lansing comes 18 days before the general election.

"Make sure you tell everybody this is the most important election of our lifetime," he told the crowd.

Several people who attended the event said they support Biden and have been volunteering locally with his campaign.

Carla O'Connell, 56, of Lansing, has been making phone calls for a few hours every night after work, urging people to vote in the election. Biden's is the first presidential campaign she's ever volunteered for, she said.
