J.D. Vance emerges as frontrunner for Trump's VP pick, immigration tops priority list in recent poll.

Attendees at Turning Point Action's The People's Convention this weekend have made their preferences clear that Ohio senator J.D. Vance is their top choice for Vice President.

A straw poll conducted at the Detroit conference found that among a list of several finalists for Trump’s VP pick, J.D. Vance emerged as the preferred candidate with 43.0% of votes.

Tim Scott followed with 15.4%, while Marco Rubio and Doug Burgum garnered 7.7% and 7.0% respectively.

A notable 26.9% of participants remained undecided on their preferred candidate for the role.

The poll also included a number of policy-related questions.

In terms of policy priorities, an overwhelming 83.3% of attendees indicated that immigration and border security should be the primary focus during the first 100 days of a potential Trump administration.

Economic issues, including jobs, cost of living, and inflation, were identified by 14.0% of the respondents as the main priority.

Only 2.7% felt that the war in Ukraine and foreign aid should take precedence.

Relating to the United States’ financial support to Ukraine, an overwhelming 91.7% of attendees responded that they oppose the continued allocation of American tax dollars for aid to the country.

Only 2.6% were in favor of ongoing support, while 3.6% remained undecided.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s performance was met with stark disapproval among convention-goers.

A staggering 78.9% of respondents strongly disapproved of his job performance.

Another 10.1% somewhat disapproved, while only 4.4% somewhat approved, and a mere 0.7% strongly approved of McConnell's leadership.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson was seen as more favorable, but still received sharp criticism from respondents.

While 7.9% of attendees strongly approved of Johnson's work, and 23.6% somewhat approved, a combined 58.6% expressed disapproval.

Of this, 23.2% somewhat disapproved, and 35.4% strongly disapproved.

The results from Turning Point Action’s straw poll provide a snapshot of the priorities and opinions held by Republicans leading up to the general election in November.

With J.D. Vance leading as the preferred Vice Presidential candidate and immigration and border security topping the list of concerns, these insights may shape the eventual decisions by the Trump campaign in the near future.
