Trump claims he only agreed to the recordings being used for a book and not for packaging them as an audiobook. He alleges copyright violations and accuses Woodward and the publisher of unjustly profiting, seeking $50 million in damages. Simon & Schuster and Woodward have responded, stating the lawsuit is without merit and the interviews were on the record and in the public interest. The 19 interviews took place between 2019 and 2020 and were used for Woodward's book "Rage", with the audiobook, "The Trump Tapes," being released in 2022.
