The U.S. military has shot down a Chinese spy balloon that was hovering over several states in the last two days. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer praised the Biden administration's decision, calling it leadership in ensuring the safety of all Americans. Schumer added that the removal of the balloon will now allow the U.S. to collect the equipment and analyze the technology used by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The balloon was shot down by U.S. military fighter jets just off the coast of South Carolina and President Biden had given authorization for the operation on Wednesday. Republican lawmakers and governors have criticized the Biden administration for its lack of communication on the issue and for not shooting the balloon out of American airspace while it hovered over sparsely populated areas of the country.
