China has responded to the recent controversy surrounding a suspicious airship flying over the United States, claiming that it was a "force majeure accident" and accusing U.S politicians and media of using the situation to discredit China. The U.S has postponed a visit to China by Secretary of State Antony Blinken due to the suspected spy balloon, which they say was a clear violation of U.S sovereignty. The Chinese foreign ministry stated that Beijing and Washington had not announced any visit by Blinken and that they respect the U.S announcements. The director of China's Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, spoke to Blinken over the phone and discussed how to handle accidental incidents in a professional manner.
