Melinda Dillon, an Oscar-nominated actress known for her roles in classic films such as "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "A Christmas Story," passed away on January 9th, 2023 at the age of 83. Her family confirmed the news on Friday. Dillon was born in Arkansas and spent her childhood in Alabama, Germany, and Chicago before starting her acting career in New York City where she received a Tony nomination and Theatre World award for her Broadway debut. She was twice nominated for an Academy Award for her supporting roles in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Absence of Malice." In addition to her film work, she also appeared in three episodes of the medical drama "Heartland" in 2007. The cause of her death has not been revealed.
