In a shocking revelation, CIA Director William Burns has claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping has instructed the country's army to be ready by 2027 to invade Taiwan. Burns made these remarks during a speech at Georgetown University, where he also highlighted that Xi has been closely observing Russian President Vladimir Putin's prolonged and costly invasion of Ukraine.
Burns added that Xi has not decided to conduct an invasion in 2027 or any other year, but the remark is a reminder of the seriousness of his focus and ambition. The CIA Director stated that it is in the US' interest to make it clear that they are opposed to any changes in the status quo, especially by force, and to help Taiwan defend itself and deter any conflict. Burns's comments came as more than a dozen Chinese military aircraft and four naval vessels were detected around Taiwan.
