New York Republican Representative, George Santos, has publicly congratulated the House lawmakers for voting to punish Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota over her antisemitic remarks. Republicans argued that Omar has a history of antisemitism and therefore should be removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee. Democrats accused Republicans of racism, but the resolution was approved. Santos, who has faced accusations of lying about his past, claimed that the vote sends a strong message of support for Israel and the Jewish community. Despite calls for Santos to resign, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has stated he will not move to expel Santos from the House unless he broke the law.
