Missouri city bans dancing to limit crowds at bars

A Missouri city has a message for the busloads of people crossing county lines and causing a ruckus: put on your Sunday shoes and do not cut loose, because dancing is banned.

St. Charles, a suburb northwest of St. Louis, has been invaded by unruly crowds and was left with no choice but to take a page out of the playbook from a 1980s movie to make things less fun.

“I feel a little bit like the movie ‘Footloose’ but that’s not what this is about,” Mayor Dan Borgmeyer told KTVI-TV.

“This is just about volume,” Borgmeyer added, referring to the surge in crowd sizes, not noise levels.

The ban was announced Wednesday after city leaders met with restaurant, bar and club operators. The temporary measure goes into effect on at 11 p.m. Friday. “Music activities” such as dancing and playing DJ music will be allowed thereafter only before 11 p.m....(Read more)
